Finding ants and bugs in your pantry can be an alarming discovery. However, finding them in bags of food such as flour and rice can be downright disgusting. Folding ends of bags or using clips to keep them shut, will not ensure that they are bug free. There are still cracks and slits open just wide enough for these creepy crawlies to get in. Luckily there is a better way. Using kitchen canisters and canister sets will help keep your food fresh as well as bug free.
While you may opt to purchase kitchen canisters one by one for specific uses, you may want to consider purchasing canister sets instead. This will give you a large variety of sizes to choose from. Storing different shaped foods such as pasta and rice to cookies and candies will become a breeze. One more reason you may want to purchase them in sets, is that they will more than likely be cheaper than purchasing them individually. And of course, you will probably want to get them in sets for aesthetic reasons. If you question my line of thinking, just picture a bed with pillows of odd sizes and different colored cases.
Now, another thing you will want to keep in mind when picking up kitchen canisters is the material that they are made out of. The types of food and products you will be storing in them should help you to make this decision. For instance, if you have food that carries a strong odor, then you will want to stay away from material that may hold in the smell after washing, such as plastic. Another factor that will weigh in on your decision is whether or not children will be handling them. If they will be, then you may want to consider canisters that will not break as easily if dropped.
As you can see, there are a variety of reasons to use kitchen canisters and to purchase them in sets, however there are a few reasons why this may be a disadvantage – the biggest being that they become tucked away easily. While it is easy to take a look at a package of cookies to see if they have expired, there is a tendency to forget about them if they are neatly placed in a ceramic canister. This could cause you to forget about foods you have packed away and allow them to expire well past the expiration date.
If you find this to be true, then you may want to consider purchasing canisters that are see through to help you avoid this problem. While there are a few other disadvantages, it can be argued that there are way too many advantages to using kitchen canisters that help outweigh this issue.
